Waiting On The One
Waiting On The One

Many of us have heard the miraculous stories of healing and love displayed by Christ during his earthy ministry. You know, even with this knowledge, I often find it hard to believe that any such miraculous manifestations of God’s power could apply to my imperfect life. It’s easy to give in to feelings of worthlessness feeling forgotten and unimportant. I often feel like I’m left waiting.
One particular account in Luke speaks of a lonely widow in a tiny secluded and often forgotten town called Nain. It was 30 miles from Capernaum on a tiny unpaved and difficult road. This woman’s son had died which left her financially, socially, and spiritually destitute according to the customs at the time. The amazing part of this tender story is that the savior arrives at the last moment and in her greatest time of need to bring her son back.
The significance here is that he would have had to leave very early, maybe even in the middle of the night to arrive at that precise moment to help just an old widow with no family in a small forgotten, nothing town.
This story is proof that Jesus was keenly aware of this Woman and her dire need of a miracle. Just as we are often left waiting on Him, we must have faith that he will come, at the perfect time with the miracle that we need most. Even when we feel like we are hopelessly waiting, He is there. He knows what we need. He loves us even when we feel unlovable. He knows that often in the waiting our faith in Him grows the most.
