This painting began as a quiet study of the Savior’s hand—hanging low, scarred, and still—yet radiating the quiet power that changed eternity. As I worked, nothing felt quite right. The composition wouldn’t settle, the colors wouldn’t harmonize, and I felt unmistakably stuck. After stepping away, searching, and praying, I stumbled across an unexpected detail: the poppy, Jerusalem’s national flower.
I learned that poppies were once planted on the tombs of fallen soldiers—symbols of profound love, sacrifice, and the blood that was shed on their behalf. Their deep red petals echo the cost of freedom. Suddenly I knew the painting needed them. Their presence brought everything together, unlocking the meaning I had been reaching for all along.
In the background sits the empty tomb, softened by morning light—the dawn of resurrection. In the foreground, the red poppies bloom, representing His ultimate sacrifice. And at the center rests His hand: scarred, yet steady; wounded, yet triumphant. The mark in His palm tells the whole story—what He gave, what He conquered, and what He offers.
This piece is about that moment where sacrifice meets victory—where the wounded hand becomes the hand that raised the world. It is a reminder that through Him, life returns, hope rises, and all things are made new.
