Strength To Rise
Strength To Rise

I have always wondered how the original apostles of Jesus Christ could so doubtfully despair and morn His death after His promise that He would again rise the third day. They had forsaken everything to follow Him, witnessing with their eyes and hearts His miraculous power and profound teachings for 3 years.
I can’t imagine what they must have felt watching the very Son of God suffer beyond imaginable. They had watched Him supersede the very forces of nature, speak with power and authority from God, and spend all his days in selfless service and perfect love. How they must have feared and felt lost, and in the darkest hours of their lives. To them there must have been no more hope, no more purpose, and the overwhelming despair that even He could not overcome the darkest end that we will all eventually succumb to. All that they had previously believed disappeared before their eyes in the most terrifying way. Was it really the end?
No. Christ descended below the very darkest moments any mortal could experience and more. The greatest miracle was that he rose again. He literally overcame, moved above, conquered, and succeeded. He rose to the greatest light, glory, and happiness one could begin to imagine.
The amount of pure joy and peace must have been overwhelming for those despairing disciples when they truly understood what He had been teaching them all along. “Without the Resurrection, the gospel of Jesus Christ becomes a litany of wise sayings and seemingly unexplainable miracles- but sayings and miracles with no ultimate triumph. No, the ultimate triumph is in the ultimate miracle: for the first time in the history of mankind, one who was dead raised himself into living immortality. He was the Son of God, the Son of our immortal Father in Heaven, and His triumph over physical and spiritual death is the good news every Christian tongue should speak.” Howard W. Hunter.
Because of His resurrection, we too can overcome, receive strength, move upward, and increase in ability, stature, power, and godliness. Nothing, not even death can hold us down when we hold onto Him. Phillipians 4:13 “I can do all thing through Christ which strengthen me."
