Child of Light

“Child of Light” captures a quiet, sacred moment. In the stillness of the night, Mary holds her newborn close, her chin resting gently on his tiny head. She looks out towards the star shining over the field, a beacon of hope and promise. In that tender embrace, the world fades away, leaving only the profound beauty of this divine moment. 

This painting pulled forward memories of holding my own newborn—those tender moments when a thousand feelings rise all at once. Excitement, worry, wonder, love, hope, reverence… all woven together in that quiet desire every mother feels: Help this child become all they were meant to be.

But Mary’s experience was something even deeper. As she held her baby close, she wasn’t just cradling her son—she was holding the Son of God. She may not have understood the fullness of His mission yet, but she knew He was different, holy, entrusted to her with a purpose far beyond her own lifetime.

Mary held in her hands the very child of light.
