A Brand New Dawn

The word Dawn has many beautiful symbolic meanings.  It signifies the first appearance of light after the greatest darkness.  It marks the beginning of a particular phenomenon or period of time, especially one considered favorable.  A third meaning is to  become evident to the mind or to be understood and enlightened. No word could better describe how I feel about the coming of Jesus Christ into the world.

On that first Christmas long ago, in a small forgotten town, the baby Jesus was born.  His birth signified a new dawn, maybe even the first dawn, as the long awaited Light of the World was laid in a manger.  It was the beginning of the greatest story ever told.  An event awaited by all looking down from heaven and foretold since the beginning of time.  It was a time where we would be able to witness the love of God through the life and mission of His Son.  The beginning of events that would bring a type of illumination to a darkened world that nothing else could bring.  It was the sign of hope, second chances, new beginnings, forgiveness, mercy, strength, grace, the greatest love, and more. 

On the morning of the saviors birth, all of God’s children awoke to a light that would extend through all time, penetrate into every heart, and would overcome darkness forever.  To me this painting is a reminder of the light of dawn that very first Christmas morning.
